Weather Club

The year 12 students are taking part in a weather club, which records the air pressure, maximum and minimum temperature, cloud cover and precipitation throughout the year. At the end of the year we will draw a graph representing the data recorded. We work in pairs to split up the work and in order to achieve accurate readings we work collaboratively together. We plan and initiate this activity using a time table. By taking down readings of the weather conditions and taking the readings consistently we show perseverance and commitment and as global warming is quite large at the moment, following the weather makes us engaged with issues of global importance. We also develop new skills by learning how to use the instruments required to measure the temperature, air pressure and simply general weather conditions throughout the year. So far me and my partner Kirill have not missed a single day and we hope to keep it that way.

Recycling

Throughout my graffiti studies a lot of scrap paper is made and it is too precious to throw away and throughout the first term as well as the Christmas holidays I have been saving up paper to give it away to the recycling plant. I may start to recycle bottles or cadboard boxes, which seem to keep on piling in my room, since we moved into the new apartment. I will gladly be engaged in issues of global importance. I link graffiti in with recycling because often I do not use up my materials efficiently enough and waste is produced, and after several weeks you get quite the pile, so instead of dumping it, I decided to recycle and help save the environment that way. This is quite new to me as well, since I had only participated in this activity in Canada, where we recycled plastic bottles, therefore this may well be a new challenge undertaken by me. Recently I have moved into a new apartment and as a result there are mountains of cardboard boxes and I recycle the materials by using them in my artwork, by making stencils out of them and sometimes just recycling them as the paper. I shall continue to recycle and try to contribute to a cleaner world.

Fitness Club

Today the Fitness Club was set up to be held every Monday and Tuesday during lunch, where me and my friends: Stefan, Vinit and Shaun, will be coaching, since we have a lot of practice in sports, personally I know all the ins and outs of the training equipment, as well as the perfect exercises to focus on particular groups of muscels. By creating this club we have planned and initiated activities, since the club started off today with 12 people attending, so it is a start. We will further try to improve the club and we have already revised a plan on how the club is going to function. Therfore we have worked collaboratively together. Generally this club was thought up to increase the number of physically healthy people and this counts as considering the ethical implications of our actions.  Sice obesity and over-weightedness is a problem in some countries this may be considered as being engaged with issues of global importance. When coaching we shall not be different from any other student and will participate in every activity that we set as well, increasing our awareness of strengths and areas for growth, so we will be undertaking new challenges and developing new skills along with the people who would like to join the club. This is a time to get fit and help others along the way.

Snowman building

During the course of the cold russian winter, m and some of my friends desided to go a bit more on the creative side and built a pair of snowmen during the long lunch break. We worked collaboratively to build these snowmen and have planned and initiated an activity. We have undertaken a new challenge and have learned new skills. However, the picture speaks for itself.

GRAFFITI

"Madness" close to wildstyle, but still...
1.8 metre high stencil
Evidence that I don't draw rubbish
"Dreams are for Real"

The absolute, most favourite thing I have in life is my desire to draw, it is my way of expressing my ideas, showing my fury or anger, sometimes my delight to the world. Graffiti is an art, even though some people may think not. This urbanistic movement increases my awareness of my strengths and areas for growth, just recently I have finished a multi-layer stencil and have painted it into A0 size, most probable that this is the best piece I have produced in my 16 years, but who knows? By taking on the graffiti challenge I have both developed new skills (and graffiti is much more than drawing pretty letters I assure you) and undertaking new challenges, the next challenge and goal I set myself was to learn to draw "wildstyle" and "underground" graffiti, and not go randomly bombing the streets as some 12 year-old girls often do. This is my second year in this sphere of influence and this is not the end for me I will remain loyal to my cause and show full commitment in what I do best.
Started with 50 hours on stencils
Then started to paint took about 4-5

The Gym

Everyday I spend two or more hours in the fitness halls of the school or at the stadium just before training starts. The long lunch breaks, since the start of the year were used by me and some of my friends in order to build our physical power and one could say that we have undertaken new challenges,  as well as increased awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth. The most popular of all the gym equipment, for me anyways, is the bench press and the apparatus used for bicept curls (my apologies for my poor gym terminology, perhaps it is an area for growth). However I do use other means of improving my physical power, such as push-ups and pull-ups. In the gym we work collaboratively with others  to avoid any injuries. I believe that I have shown perseverence and commitment in this activity, for I have gone to the gym throughout the several months that I have been in school and even before that. Over the course of htese months I have developed a new skill - learning to stand and walk on my hands, which is quite an achievement, I have come close to lifting 85 kg, which is more than I weigh so great thngs have yet to come.

Parents' Evening

There was not a lot to do during the Parents' evening, where parents met up with the teachers in order to discuss the progress of the pupils. However, the IB students wee the ones to help out with tea and coffee nby running a stall, as well as help with navigation around the school helping us to undertake new challenges, this gave us an idea of our strengths and areas of growth. When a crowd of people comes along the help of friends is never unwanted and we worked collaboratively with one another and, to some extent, develope new skills, since I tend not to drink coffee and am a rookie in that sort of thing, especially in it's preparation, thankfully I received some help from some of my friends.
